KRCB Live! is proud to feature Lester Chambers, soul music legend and lead singer of 60s rock group, The Chambers Brothers. The Chambers Brothers' hit single, "Time Has Come Today," spent five weeks at number 11 on the Billboard Charts in 1968. As a solo artist, Lester has played with ex-Electric Flag bassist Harvey Brooks for the Lester Chambers Harvey Brooks band and sang vocals on Bonnie Raitt's Sweet Forgiveness album. Recently inducted into the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame, Lester Chambers joins us in our studio with his son, Dylan Chambers, and the Mud Stompers. "This collaboration of Lester Chambers and esteemed music journalist T Watts is a fabulous read. The book spans musical eras, starting with an intimate description of the brutality and exploitation of Mississippi sharecropper life and the profound importance of music and song to African Americans in the deep south. From blues to gospel and the emergent genres that have defined much of the nation's - and world's - popular music in the years since. I am listening right now to the familiar tunes of the Chambers Brothers, marveling how these very vulnerable and often struggling humans formed their imprint on so many of us. The LA/ SF/ Berkeley stories are marvelous. How Owsley gave Lester two Mason jars full of LSD, inspiring him to microdose daily for several years. And finally to his recent collaborations with venture capitalist Roger McNamee and his Moonalice band. It's a good read and a reminder that we as Americans need to continually remind ourselves of both the roots of the music we love and the rapacious history of the music industry. Buy this book."
